Investment planning

At the heart of any portfolio planning process is a determination of your risk and return profile. SMB Wealth Management will make certain you understand this process, so you can make a decision that you are comfortable with and that feels right for you. We are all individuals and our aim at SMB is to understand your plans and concerns and design a portfolio that reflects all the issues you share with us.

We can either select a discretionary or advisory investment manager for you or manage a portfolio of collective funds ourselves. The choice is yours!

If we are asked to select an investment manager to manage a discretionary or advisory portfolio, we will use our extensive experience to source and select the right firm and individual manager to look after your investments. We will also monitor their performance and be available to join you at review meetings or, if you wish, attend them for you.

If you prefer us to manage your portfolio, it will focus on collective investments, such as Unit Trusts and OEICs, and utilise all the appropriate tax wrappers, such as ISAs, SIPPS and Insurance Bonds, to maximise tax efficiency. We will select funds that match your risk and return profile, then carefully monitor them and advise you when we think any changes should be made. Good fund managers retire or change investment houses, so we will keep our ears to the ground as well as using our hard-nosed, analytical investment performance monitoring systems to keep abreast of changes. We will provide you with a consolidated view of all your fund holdings and you will always have access to an up to date valuation.

Our aim is to have a long term relationship with you based on trust -

· our remuneration will be a fee based on the value of your portfolio, usually without an initial charge. You can pay this yourself or sanction the portfolio provider to pay our fees out of your portfolio. Typically our annual fees will be 0.5% plus VAT, paid either half yearly or quarterly,

· we will meet with you regularly to review investment performance and, if necessary, to change the structure of your portfolio following any change in your personal circumstances,

· and we will always be available for advice or just a second opinion, so you can feel free to call or email us at any time .
